Very comfortable nights stay here. Very ‘lived in’ and homely place. Great having the kitchen to use and never objected to me having a takeaway delivered to have in my room. Bed was really comfy.

Cannot express how greatful we are, we had a lovely stay, felt so welcome, host went above and beyond for us! Felt so at home, we had everything we needed, we was going to a wedding and was informed it was flooded one way so that saved us lots of time. Thank you so much for everything!! We appreciate it x we also had the best visitor, I begged for her to come with us!

Friendly, welcoming and unpretentious village pub standing on the site of former Cawood Castle close to the river Ouse. Good beers include a choice of local draught ales from their own brewery, which is in Selby. We stayed two nights and enjoyed a local band one evening. The pub has two rooms at low rates that reflect having shared bathroom facilities. Comfy double bed in ours but otherwise no frills. However I'd rather put money in local pockets than stay in a Premier Inn or Travelodge, and what we saved on accommodation was spent locally on eating out, so it was win-win for us and the local hospitality industry. Landlady Kathy is very friendly and obliging, and obviously works hard to keep her customers happy.

eautiful pub, steeped in history, in a lovely village with lots to do. On entering, you were welcomed with a great smile from a staff member who I soon found out was the landlady and, what an asset to the pub industry she is. She is knowledgeable about the area, makes great food, has an excellent array of wonderful real ales, and one hell of an amazing music list which I am going to steal a copy of on my next visit. After meeting the locals, it just enhances the already amazing atmosphere, I’m still chuckling over some of the stories. The Food. Plenty of home-cooked food which smelt amazing, I didn’t get to try it as the website said the pub was closed on Tuesday so I ate out, however when I arrived I was told they are open every day ( change website lovely landlady). The room. My room was very spacious with a very comfortable bed and some real furniture, rather than a clothes racks you get in some of the modern hotels. There is also a flatscreen TV, table and chairs and a view to the street which was very nice. Bathroom. Now normally I am very funny with sharing a bathroom but here there is only 1 other room so it felt like my bathroom which was spotless with a large shower plenty of toiletries and very nice towels. I travel pretty much all the time and I’ve got to say the Jolly Sailor, is the landlady, a true asset to this pub, and the industry, look after her.
